Song story: Matt Redman's "The Heart of Worship"

Hellooooo guys...

Td pas dinner baru aja Nova & I chatted about Matt Redman gtu.. how he writes beautiful songs for God and suddenly pas baca Roy's entry (dibawah ini), aku realize kalo bener bgt.. kadang2 kt nyanyi tp ga bener2 with understanding of the lyrics gtu.. and kalo kt worship, apa bener2 dengan hati kt yg purely yearning for Him? Speaking of this, I recalled a story about Matt Redman's song "The Heart of Worship," which I believe familiar bgt kan? :)

Kalo kalian dengerin the first two verses which go:

When the music fades,
All is stripped away
and I simply come.

Longing just to bring
something that's of worth,
that will bless Your heart.

Have you ever thought about what those words meant?

Hmm.. a little nits & grits about the history yah.. This song dates back to the late 1990s, when Redman's congregation was struggling to find meaning in its musical outpouring. So, his pastor decided to get rid of the sound system and band for a season because he thought that they'd lost their way in worship and so, the way to get back to the heart would be to strip everything away. Kalo misalnya hati kita bener2 tertuju kepada Tuhan, without music pun kita tetep bisa feel His presence and be annointed :) Hence the saying, "Worship is all about Jesus, no matter what the circumstance and setting." Amen??

Anyway, after he got home that day, Matt Redman langsung tulis lagu ini and he said that " 'The Heart of Worship' simply describes what occurred." Bener2 terjadi lho yg namanya "I'm coming back to the heart of worship, and it's all about You, Jesus," because in the absence of music, all we have left to offer God is purely our hearts and this is what God really wants.

Of course, ini extreme scenario yah sampe musicnya di remove gtu dari congregation hehe.. tp since we're still gonna have the sound system and band, let's learn how to just let the song "breathe," jadi meaningnya bener2 bisa kita tangkep and we can worship Him... really worship.
